“Upon this Rock”
Mathematics
has always played an important role in art particularly in composition.
Numbers are frequently used (mentioned) in the Bible
and form the basis for my latest drawing. Indeed, I always seek
to have numbers (symbolically) within my compositions
that have meaning in the Bible..
I have created a set of “meditation beads” that feature
the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and14.
All of the numbers used have scriptural references.
The number 7 for example, is mentioned over 700 times in the Bible.
The beads shown differ from Rosary, Prayer and Worry Beads, as
they require a reflection, (not prayer) on Biblical passages
where a particular number is mentioned.
For example: The number 1 is mentioned in Genesis 1:1.

Number of God, Beginning.
2: Number of witness, division.
3: Number of Godhead.
4: Number of earth, four winds, seasons, corners.
5: Number of grace, five wounds of Jesus, five loaves.
6: Number of man, created sixth day.
7: Number of perfection, completeness,
Revelation.
8: Number of resurrection, new beginning.
9: Number of finality, the Holy Spirit.
10: Number of law, order, government.
14: Number of Passover.
This
drawing uses a circle to highlight the power of the cross on a
single rock. The ”Living Tree” (The
Tree of Life) is surrounded by fallen trees (pointing
both inwards and outwards). The dove (Holy Spirit)
hovers nearby.
