Where have the past twelve months gone?
I’ve been pushing myself particularly this year through a number of themes. I cannot stay on one subject for too long which has resulted in a folio of over 30 drawings since January.
Logs, water, stones and bread have made up the bulk of my work. Throw in the odd Rat Trap and fishing lure for good measure, and you have a fairly diverse collection of work, most of which appear on this website. I also have some work “put away” for upcoming exhibitions and competitions.
Specializing in coloured pencil was a big decision to make as I have traditionally worked in a variety of mediums, but once I had made the “break”, it presented me with a greater challenge, one that I continue to enjoy.
The Liffey Valley is a wonderful area of temperate rainforest less than 45 minutes drive from my home in Tasmania’s north. The Liffey River is the major water flow through the valley. I came upon a pool, which I just had to draw! Using Canson Pastel Board I worked with French and Warm greys, cream, sand, yellow ochre, avacado and green ochre coloured pencils.
I commenced shading using the lightest colours and built up the tones to finish with a darker palette that reflected the atmosphere in this particular part of the valley. I find the pastel board (colour 502) brilliant for both Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils.
